As part of that commitment our team recently attended an eye-opening presentation on \u201cThe Hearing to Brain Connection\u201d, led by Dr. Nashlea Brogan, Au.D., TEDx Speaker, Author, and Preventative Healthcare Advocate, and Dr. Rhee Nesson, Au.D., Founder of Hearing Doctors of New Jersey, Author, and Certified Dementia &amp; Tinnitus Practitioner. This informative session, which took place at the Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange, was presented by the Hearing Doctors of New Jersey, in partnership with the Alzheimer\u2019s Association.<\/p>\n<p>This powerful presentation reinforced something we emphasize every day at CareBuilders: the importance of keeping the brain stimulated and engaged. It also deepened our understanding of how hearing loss is directly linked to cognitive decline, and why early intervention is critical.<\/p>\n<h2>The Alarming Connection Between Hearing Loss and Dementia<\/h2>\n<p>Currently, 12% of seniors are living with Alzheimer\u2019s disease, and 20% of the global population experiences hearing loss \u2013 with aging being the number one cause. As we age untreated hearing loss removes essential stimuli from the brain. Without these inputs the brain is forced to work harder to process sound, often at the expense of memory and thinking skills. This leads to a significantly increased risk of dementia.<\/p>\n<h2>Prevention Through Engagement and Early Action<\/h2>\n<p>The good news is that early treatment and intervention can make a real difference. Addressing hearing loss through hearing aids or other therapies restores those vital brain inputs and slows cognitive decline.
