I’ve written about cleaning tips for the new year,<\/a> and now we are going to talk about skincare. This may seem a little frivolous, but skincare is a part of hygiene. Maintaining hygiene is fundamental to preserving one’s dignity as they age. These tips aren’t just for older adults, they are good for anyone looking to start a basic routine.<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

Moisturize<\/h4>\n

Daily moisturization is key to keeping your skin healthy. If fragrances irritate your skin, then try to find fragrance-free options. You can get really good moisturizers for the body and face at the drug store. You can use eye cream if you want to, but you can use any facial moisturizer under your eyes.<\/p>\n

Always Wear Sunscreen<\/h4>\n

This one is truly a timeless piece of advice. It doesn’t matter how old or young you are, what season it is, you need to be protecting your skin. I wear sunscreen every single day, even if I stay inside all day. I think a lot of the time, we talk about protecting our skin from sun damage to prevent aging. While it is true that sun damaged skin will age you, that doesn’t mean older adults should dismiss sunscreen. Our skin is our largest organ and we need to take care of it. If you need help applying it, don’t hesitate to ask a loved one. And don’t forget to reapply!<\/p>\n

Gentle Cleansing<\/h4>\n

And since we’re wearing sunscreen every day, we need to learn how to cleanse our skin properly. As we age, our skin gets more sensitive so it is important that we find a gentle cleanser that does not strip our skin too much while also cleaning it. Like moisturizers, you can find great products at the drugstore without breaking the bank.<\/p>\n
