How can you beat the heat while still staying active this summer? As I mentioned last year in our post about extreme heat safety<\/a>, high temperatures can interfere with certain medications and worsen some health conditions.<\/p>\n

Here are a few ways to remain active in your community while limiting heat and sun exposure.<\/p>\n

\"Older<\/p>\n

Drive-In Theaters<\/h4>\n

There are two drive-in theaters near Louisville: the Sauerbeck Family Drive-In<\/a> in LaGrange and the Georgetown Drive-In<\/a> across the river. Both offer a fun way to enjoy a movie while staying seated and comfortable in your own vehicle.<\/p>\n

Because movies take place at night, temperatures are usually cooler. The only consideration is that shows can run late. If evenings are difficult, traditional indoor theaters may be a better option, especially for special re-releases or matinees.<\/p>\n

Farmer\u2019s Markets<\/h4>\n

Many local farmer\u2019s markets operate in the morning or early afternoon, helping you avoid peak heat. Kayla Baker wrote a helpful guide to Louisville farmer\u2019s markets<\/a> if you are looking for one nearby.<\/p>\n

Farmer\u2019s markets also provide access to fresh, seasonal produce. Visiting early in the day allows you to enjoy the experience before temperatures rise.<\/p>\n

Evening Concerts and Events<\/h4>\n

Summer evenings often bring outdoor concerts and cultural events. For example, Kentucky Shakespeare hosts performances in Central Park that begin before it gets completely dark, making them more manageable than late-night events.<\/p>\n

If mobility or transportation is a concern, companion care in Louisville<\/a> can assist with safe outings and errands while promoting independence.<\/p>\n
