Of course, the obvious ones are &#8220;the sun&#8221; but there are some things that are not so obvious that I think we can discuss further.<\/p>\n<h4>Cold Water<\/h4>\n<p>When it&#8217;s really hot, all we want to do is swim in ice-cold water, but that should be done in moderation. Jumping in water that is too cold relative to the air can have disastrous consequences, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/cold-water-during-heat-wave-drowning-risk-12008818\">Stephanie Brown for Very Well Health<\/a>. &#8220;That temperature difference can have serious consequences. Suddenly entering cold water can trigger the body\u2019s<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u201ccold shock response,\u201d causing an involuntary gasp, rapid breathing, or even heart problems. The water doesn\u2019t have to feel frigid\u2014water as warm as 77 degrees Fahrenheit can trigger this response.&#8221; (Brown, 2026, &#8220;Why Jumping into Cold Water During Heat Wave Can Put You at Risk of Drowning&#8221;). Drinking cold water is generally fine, although I do like to suggest a hydration &#8220;hack&#8221; of hot or iced tea because it&#8217;s a lot of water while you still feel like you&#8217;re not just drinking water.<\/p>\n<h4>Hot Layered Clothing<\/h4>\n<p>For sun protection, it is good to wear light layers that cover much of your body. However, make sure you&#8217;re picking the right fabrics that will keep you cool. You don&#8217;t want to overheat in pursuit of trying to protect your skin from the sun.
