Often older people find that they have extra time. Older adults can also benefit from the social aspects of hobbies. Being part of the community is something I talk about under “social health.” It can be a key part of mental health and living a long, happy life. I’ve talked before about good hobbies for older adults, so let’s talk about some more that I hopefully haven’t talked about yet. The key details we are going to focus on today are affordability, accessibility, and community involvement.<\/p>\n
Especially if you learned when you were younger, it may be time to brush off that board. Especially now, there are tons of online resources to play for free and there may be a club in your area. The chess community is quite welcoming of people of all ages.<\/p>\n
D&D is often put on for free at places like the public library. All you need is a group of friends, a book (that you can rent) and some die and someone to run the campaign. You can also get multiple generations involved in your campaign!<\/p>\n
One way I personally love to stay fit is through group exercise classes. If you’re able to do so, check out your local community center or YMCA for classes. There are often classes like Silver Sneakers or chair yoga that would be suited to older or limited mobility attendees.<\/p>\n
