This is a continuation of last week’s post<\/a> about less-obvious tasks our caregivers can help with \u2014 the kind of everyday support that families often don’t realize is part of in-home care. Here are a few more services worth knowing about, in case you or a loved one could benefit but hadn’t thought to ask.<\/p>\n

\"A<\/p>\n

Help With Grocery Lists and Coupon Clipping<\/h2>\n

Our caregivers can help with tasks like preparing grocery lists and clipping coupons, if that’s something the client likes to do. These small organizational tasks can be a real help for older adults who find writing difficult for any reason \u2014 or who simply enjoy the companionship of having someone alongside them while they take care of household tasks. Sitting together at the kitchen table making a shopping list is often as much about connection as it is about the errand itself.<\/p>\n

Weekly Meal Planning and Meal Prep<\/h2>\n

Meal planning pairs naturally with grocery list help. Our caregivers can work with clients to plan out a week of meals \u2014 accounting for dietary needs, favorite foods, and what’s on sale \u2014 and then help with the shopping and preparation. In some cases, caregivers will pre-cook several meals at once and freeze portions, so the client has a stretch of easy-to-heat meals ready to go. This approach cuts down on daily kitchen effort while still keeping meals varied and nutritious throughout the week.<\/p>\n

Help With Light Lifting and Moving Items<\/h2>\n

Everyday tasks that involve lifting or carrying \u2014 putting a box of donations in the car, moving holiday decorations to the attic, bringing something up from the basement \u2014 can become genuinely difficult with age, and they’re the kind of thing people often put off because there’s no one to ask. Our caregivers can help with a few individual boxes or items like these. Please talk with the office in advance so we can make sure the request is communicated clearly to your caregiver, and so we can confirm the task is within scope of what we can safely handle.<\/p>\n

Organizing and Decluttering<\/h2>\n

Small organizing tasks \u2014 sorting through a closet, tidying a kitchen drawer, going through a stack of mail \u2014 often accumulate over time and start to feel overwhelming. A caregiver can work through these projects in short, manageable sessions during regular visits, breaking a big job into small ones that don’t require an all-at-once decluttering day. It’s another way in-home care helps a home feel calmer and more manageable without the client having to tackle everything alone.<\/p>\n

Reading and Correspondence<\/h2>\n

For clients whose vision has changed or who find writing difficult, caregivers can help with reading the mail, going through the newspaper, or writing letters and cards to family and friends. Small tasks like these help older adults stay connected to what’s happening in their world and in their community \u2014 and they often become moments of genuine conversation as well.<\/p>\n
