We are coming up on International Day of Yoga next week. A lot of older adults may shy away from yoga because they do not think they have the stamina or balance for it. However, there is an accessible option for people who need it: chair yoga.
What is Chair Yoga?
Chair yoga are yoga exercises that have been adjusted to be able to be done while sitting down, hence the name. Don’t think though that chair yoga is easier or less rigorous than other forms of yoga. These stretches are simply targeted at core and upper body strength and mobility. To read more, I did write about this a little bit before.
Affordability
One of the best things about chair yoga is that there are plenty of free resources on poses online. There are also some great class options, if people are able to go to the gym regularly. You all know that I do not like to do blanket claims about affordability because that is completely subjective, but there are a lot of cheap and free options for older adults to use to do it.
Mobility
Yoga of any form can help build up your strength and mobility. You won’t even realize how much stronger you are until you get to a pose and it is much easier than it had been. It’s a great option for older adults who want to stay active.
Have a great day everyone and stay tuned this week!
