We’re starting off our spring cleaning month of May strong with some cleaning tips. This took me a little longer than I would have liked, but nonetheless here it is now. This month we will be posting all about cleaning so we can get our homes in tip-top shape!

Double Check Your Home Remedies

Now, this one I may be responsible for doing myself, perhaps even on this blog. Until recently, I’d thought that lemon and baking soda were a good cleaning combination because of what I had seen online. However, I have since learned that the acidic properties of these two substances when combined essentially cancel each other out. So always double check your sources before doing something DIY that you found on the internet.

Don’t Move the Furniture

I say this so often that I fear I am a broken record, but please do not move the furniture. Many older adults use muscle memory to find places where they can balance (like on furniture) and moving those sources of balance can dramatically increase their risk of falling.

Consider Wearing Additional PPE

If you’ve never worn gloves while cleaning, you might consider giving it a try. As we age, our skin gets thinner and in some cases more sensitive, so cleaning ptoducts may bother us when they never had before. Also consider respirators when working with certain products.

Stay tuned for more spring cleaning tips this May!
