A little bit ago, I did a mini-series about financially preparing for holiday gift giving. Today, we’re going to talk about financially planning for the holiday season events, separate from the gifts. Here are some ways that you can participate or host holiday events while still keeping costs down. A lot of older adults have legitimate concern about costs, so that’s why we focus on low budget options.
Thrift Your Decorations
A lot of people donate their old decorations to places like Goodwill or sell them for cheap on Facebook Marketplace. This way, you can get decorations without breaking the bank and you save some old decorations from the landfill.
DIY the Rest
You can make your own decorations, and there are plenty of ideas online. I might do a whole post about DIY decoration ideas. This can be a great option to let your grandkids contribute to your holiday decorations.
Potlucks
If you no longer can cook everything for Thanksgiving or Christmas or any of the winter and fall holidays, that’s totally normal. Try out a potluck, just make sure your loved ones don’t bring the same thing. Nobody needs 20 plates of green beans.
What are you doing to cut costs?
