I love fall, and I love getting to do all sorts of activities. A lot of older adults want to enjoy the season as well but have a problem with accessing everything that they used to be able to enjoy. I’m going to talk about some fall activities that are accessible. I’m going to primarily focus on physical accessibility, so this is my disclaimer that everyone is different. Different accessibility features will be more or less impactful depending on the individual.

A few pumpkins sit behing a sign that says "Halloween."

Farm Stands

Just because you may have issues getting into a pumpkin patch does not mean that you can’t enjoy fall harvests. A lot of farms, like Huber’s, have indoor farm stores where you can purchase fall produce.

Jack’s Lantern Trail

Louisville’s favorite pumpkin trail is scooter and wheelchair accessible! ADA parking is also available, so there’s no reason to skip it this year. It can get a little crowded, so try to go on a weeknight or earlier in the season.

Boo at the Zoo

This is a great family-friendly activity that is also wheelchair accessible, as the zoo is paved. It is a night-time outdoor event, so if you have vision challenges it may be hard. But it’s perfect for people with grandchildren.

I may have some more up my sleeve, so this may turn into a two part series! Let me know what you love to do down below.
