AlsoIs one of your resolutions to keep your house cleaner? Well, look no further, because I’ve got you covered. I’ve given tips on accessible cleaning and cleaning tools before (all hail our overlord, the Robot Vaccuum), but today I’m going to keep it very simple and cost effective. Some of these affordable cleaning tips incorporate items you already own.

Wiping Mirrors

First, don’t have Windex on hand? That’s alright. Just add water! Take a damp cloth and run it over the mirrors. This won’t take care of any germs but it will clean dust and grime off the mirrors. I use it in a pinch. This is definitely the most affordable cleaning tip that you can get.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

I’ve been consistently amazed at how many problems you can solve in housekeeping with these two items. You can use vinegar to clean mattresses, your drain (I’ve done this personally), your microwave, your shower, your toilet, and more, according to “How to Clean with Vinegar” by Caitlin Sole for Better Homes and Gardens. Also, baking soda is similarly versatile in housekeeping, and often can be used with vinegar.

Know the Basics

Lastly, one of the best things to do if you are trying to keep your house more clean going forward, you should know the basics first. For example, don’t mix chemicals. Second, read the labels very carefully to make sure you are using the products correctly. Third, learn what the dwell time of your products is, and the difference between sanitize versus disinfecting. All of these basic principles cost nothing to learn and crucial to learning about how to keep your house clean.
