As the wildfires rage through Canada, many parts of the northern United States have suffered with air quality issues. As extreme weather becomes more common with climate change, I thought it was a good idea to talk about how older adults can handle poor air quality.

Stay Inside

The easiest way to deal with poor air quality is to stay inside as much as possible on poor quality days. Most weather apps will tell you if there are air quality concerns in your area. You can also look up the air quality in regards to allergies in most weather apps.

Wear a Mask

If you do have to go outside, you should wear a N-95 for environmental protection. Especially for older adults and people with asthma or other senstivities, they really should not be exposed to the air.

All in all, if you have any specific concerns, you should bring them up with your physician. Stay safe, and stay tuned to our blog for more!
