Happy Care-o-ween! I wrote about Halloween safety tips, and I have some more tips for you. You can read my previous post in here, and read on to learn more about ways to safely enjoy the holiday.

A few pumpkins sit behing a sign that says "Halloween."

Separate Common Allergens

Look up the most common allergens (like peanuts) and keep that candy in a separate container from allergen friendly candy. I wrote a whole post about inclusive candy last year. This is a way to minimize cross-contamination and keep everyone safe. You can learn more about the nine most common food allergens here in this post “The 9 Most Common Food Allergies” by Helen West and Alyssa Northrop for Healthline. Another way to eliminate some cross-contamination is to wash your hands in between passing out candy from those buckets.

Don’t Wear Masks

Non-medical masks that cover your whole face can restrict your visibility. For safety and visibility reasons, please skip those. Surgical masks of course are fine and do not restrict your vision, and I encourage them if you are immunocompromised. If you are trick-or-treating with little ghouls and goblins, maybe you can suggest that they don’t wear any masks as well.

Bundle Up

Make sure you and your boo crew have lots of extra socks, hats, and mittens or gloves because it gets quite cold. Clothing and weather preparedness is a key part of safety, so be sure that you all are warm enough.

Happy Halloween Eve everybody!
