The other day I wrote a follow up to my original post about helping with middle school aged students. I found that I had a lot to say about warning people against relying on generative AI like ChatGPT when you are helping middle school students with their projects and homework.
Explore New Interests
Middle school is a great time for kids to explore new interests like theater, robotics, or hobbies like knitting or trying a new sport. There can be a ton of expectations placed on high school students to pick the “thing” they’re interested in for college and beyond. Middle school is the perfect low-pressure time to ecplore those new interests. Maybe you find something that your grandkids can do with you outside of school.
Explore Community Events Together
You can always offer to take them along with you to any community events that you go to, it could be anything from the farmer’s market to your group exercise classes. This is important not only to get you out in the comunity, but to model community engagement for your grandkids. It’ll serve them well their whole lives, and will help them adjust to new communities wherever they move.
That is probably enough about helping middle school students for a while. Who knew there was so much to say about that topic?
