Especially as older adults retire, it is important for them to participate in their community and cultivate hobbies. We’ve talked before about possible hobbies but I thought we’d go over it again. Like always, not every suggestion will apply to everyone, not everyone has the mental or physical ability to do all of these things.

Walking

Walking doesn’t seem like a hobby, but once you get buddies involved then you have a walking club. It’s great exercise, can be done anywhere, and it can be social as well. Bonus points if someone has a dog to walk as well.

Painting

Painting can be a good hobby because it involves hand-eye coordination and it is a creative outlet. I think it is important for everyone, but especially older adults, to have some sort of creative form of self expression. You don’t have to paint canvases, you can paint rocks or household objects like stainless steel cups.

Card-Based Games

Card games are a nice hobby for older adults because cards are cheap, light, and portable. They can be easy to learn, and easy to teach others. That makes them inherently sociable. It’s a great option for a hobby for older adults.

Which hobbies are you trying?
