At CareBuilders, we offer light housekeeping as part of our non-medical home care services. I’ve shared information about this in the past, but since it’s been a while, I wanted to provide a quick refresher. Light housekeeping can be adjusted based on individual preferences—you can request more or less support depending on your needs.
No Scrubbing
The key word here is “light.” Our caregivers do not perform heavy scrubbing or strenuous cleaning tasks. This means no scrubbing floors, bathtubs, or other physically demanding areas. Within our scope of care, light tasks may include using a Swiffer, vacuuming, or wiping down mirrors—as long as the activity is not overly strenuous.
Dusting
Light dusting is another task we can assist with during a visit. This typically includes basic, routine dusting to help keep living areas comfortable and tidy, without moving heavy furniture or performing deep cleaning.
Surface Cleaning
Caregivers can also wipe down surfaces such as countertops or stovetops. As with other housekeeping tasks, this does not involve intense scrubbing. We ask clients to provide any preferred cleaning products, as caregivers use what is already available in the home.
For general information on safe household cleaning and disinfecting practices, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides clear guidance on cleaning and disinfecting your home, which aligns well with light housekeeping approaches.
If you’d like to explore more everyday living topics and support options, you can also browse the CareBuilders at Home Louisville blog, where we regularly share guidance focused on non-medical care and aging at home.
This article is for general informational purposes only and is not medical advice. CareBuilders at Home provides non-medical home care services designed to support daily living and independence.
This was a quick overview of what light housekeeping includes. Let us know in the comments if you have any questions, and stay tuned for more updates on the blog.
