I talk a lot about how you can save money by buying produce from local farms. A lot of times that means you’re a little restricted to what is in season in your area. Today we’re going to talk about in-season summer fruits and vegetables that you should be able to find easily in your local area. You can also check the produce map here from Rachel Stroop for Kentucky Farm to Table.
Berries
Most berries are in season in early summer and late spring, but you should still be able to find some. Keep an eye out for elderberries, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries.
Peaches
Peach season often ends in late summer, as well.
Apples
Apple season starts in mid-summer and continues into the fall. Exact harvest dates are often going to depend on the variety, like peaches. Different farms might have different dates so ask your favorite farm directly if there are particular varieties that strike your fancy.
Vegetables
A lot of vegetables like cucumbers, cauliflower, lettuce and okra are in season right now. A lot of root vegetables are just starting to come in, which is the perfect opportunity to air fry or grill up some vegetables at home.
This was a shorter one, but have fun at your local farmer’s market and stay tuned!
