I’ve been thinking about some ways that older adults can remain mobile in their homes. I’m of course not talking about people who already have significant mobility challenges. Some of this advice will apply to people who use mobility devices.

Don’t Move the Furniture

Many older adults remember the routes around the their homes, and if someone moves their furniture, it increases their fall risk. Many people, knowingly or not, balance themselves on their furniture while moving about. If you can convince an older adult to use a mobility device instead of the furniture, that can help them move around.

Wearing House Shoes

House shoes can give the wearer more stability than they would have had going barefoot or wearing socks. Some people wear house shoes all their lives so this is hardly novel but I still think that it was worth mentioning.

This is going to be another short one because I have more to say that woul not fit here.
