Our post yesterday was about how to determine how much homecare you need on a weekly basis. Today, let’s talk about how to determine when to utilize housekeeping services and how often to use them. We only do light housekeeping (no scrubbing) but this can also apply to more heavy duty services.

When to Call in Backup

You’re going to want to start thinking about housekeeping help when you start to notice difficulty doing basic housekeeping tasks like vacuuming, sweeping, or running a load of laundry. Notice how I say “difficulty” and not “inability.” You can need assistance while still being able to do these things.

Evaluate Your Needs

Make a list of all the things you need help with including personal care and housekeeping. Depending on the number of things you need in each column, you may decide to go with homecare, only housekeeping services from a more heavy duty service, or you might want to hire both services. This will also allow you to see if you can ask for help with any of these tasks from friends and family.

How Many Visits do You Need

If this is included in your general homecare, it’ll often depend on how many hours that your insurance will cover. If you are paying for a housekeeping-only service, it’ll depend on how big the tasks that you need help with are and how often you need them done.
