Yesterday, we talked about how to stay safe in the summer heat. Today, we’re going to go over some things that we should avoid doing in the heat. Summer is blazing, and we need to stay safe!

Eat Light

We talked about eating hydrating foods like produce yesterday, but it is important to eat light in general. According to Jeffrey Kluger for TIME Magazine, “fat- and calorie-dense foods can be harder to digest, raising body temperature and leaving you feeling overheated and sluggish.” You may want to eat more frequent, smaller meals.

Dog Walks on the Pavement

Cement is much hotter (around 20 degrees) than the air temperature, so try to avoid taking dogs out in the heat of the day. Like I said yesterday about general outdoor activities, try to take them for long walks first thing in the morning or after the sun sets.

Getting All Your Hydration From Water

Drinking water is great, but when it is so hot, you need to replenish your electrolytes. This can be as simple as adding electrolyte packets or fruits to your water. You can also drink juice or post-workout drinks like Body Armor.

Stay safe out there everyone and see you next time!
