A little bit ago I wrote a post about how hygiene rituals that people do their entire lives can be very important to them as they age. I thought we could go over a few more hygiene rituals and how caregivers can either assist themselves or find other solutions.

Shaving

Shaving one’s face is something that many men do their entire adult lives. A lot of professional caregivers don’t help people shave, for fairly obvious reasons. Many barbers still do shaves, and you may want to see if a family member can help with shaving. Like having your hair done, maintaining one’s facial hair can be an important part of one’s self-image.

Cleaning

Cleaning is a ritual that serves a practical purpose, but it can also be a very important mental health exercise. I know that I have personally gotten in such a slump when I can’t clean. But most older adults may not be to clean as much as they used. Our caregivers can help with light housekeeping.
