We’ve talked a lot about preparing for the holidays. Today we’re going to go over some holiday must-haves for older adults this winter. Let us know which ones you implemented down below!

Your Care Plan

This can be as detailed or sparse as you want, if you want a post about how to make a care plan for family caregivers, let me know. We have a care plan that we put together for our clients, but if you are not using professional caregivers you can still make one. All you need is an outline of what tasks the family member in question needs help with and who is going to be helping with each task. It’s best to be as comprehensive as possible to take the stress out of it on the day and to make sure that the day runs smoothly. Bonus points if you all keep a notebook with notes about medication times, and different observations.

Decorations in an Accessible Place

Make sure your decorations for the Christmas season are in a safe, accessible place so that you or your loved ones don’t get hurt trying to get to them. I don’t recommend that you try to put them up alone.

All Your Holiday Recipes

Get your recipe books ready! Check over your traditional fare to make sure there won’t be any barriers to making them this year (due to mobility issues or allergies). You may have to delegate this year, but that will be ok. And it can be nostalgic to go back over them.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving week, everyone!
