What is personal care? I thought we could go over it again today. You can also review one of our older posts here.

What Personal Care Is

Personal care is assistance with daily hygiene and maintainance tasks, such as brushing your teeth and hair, going to the bathroom, taking a shower, or eating. Every person is going to need a different level of assistance based on their ability. For example, Person A may need their caregiver to help them into their shower chair but then Person A can wash themselves. Person B may be able to shower completely by themselves but would like their caregiver be standing by in case they fall. Person C may need help with all aspects of showering. Each caregiver is going to meet each individual clients’ needs to the best of their ability. We believe in letting our clients do as much as they can on their own as long as they can do it safely. Personal care may also involve:

  • transfering using a gait belt or transfer device
  • assistance dressing

and more.

What is not Included in Personal Care

Light housekeeping and companionship tasks are not included in personal care, however they can be included in your care. All you have to do is talk to our office about what kind of tasks you need your caregiver to perform.
