A lot of our readers and clients may have grandchildren, and this back to school season is a great opportunity for bonding. Grandparents fostering a love of education can be so important, since your grandkids look up to you. Of course, this is all assuming that your children and children in-laws are alright with you being involved in their education.
Offer to be a Homework Buddy
Sometimes just hanging out while your grandkids do their homework is a great way to keep them accountable and focused. You may be able to help them with their homework, but even if you can’t, sitting there is a big help.
Reading
Encouraging reading is really important, especially with younger kids. If you’re a huge reader, maybe you make a reading challenge where you try to have them read more books than you per week, with ice cream on Fridays or something. You can do a mini book club, you can do reading circles with younger kids. Reading is such an important skill and early reading education can also help catch kids that have a little bit of a delay and get them set up with early intervention.
As adults, we have so much power to foster a love of learning in the kids of our lives. Think about the adults that helped teach you to read, and helped you with your math homework.
